Andrew Dawson
é Professor Titular do Departamento de Política, Filosofia e Religião da Universidade de Lancaster, Inglaterra. Tem títulos em Estudos da Religião, Teologia e Ciências Sociais de universidades inglesas e norte-americanas. Pesquisando as áreas de religião e sociedade, seu livro mais recente, New Era – New Religions (Nova Era – Novas Religiões) (Ashgate, 2007), examina o surgimento e a expansão de uma nova religiosidade no Brasil. Andrew é co-editor da revista Fieldwork in Religion (Trabalho de Campo em Religião), com uma equipe internacional de revisão de pares; completou recentemente (como editor), Summoning the Spirits: Possession and Invocation in Modern Religion (Invocando os Espíritos: Possessão e Invocação na Religião Moderna) (IB Tauris, 2010); atualmente está escrevendo uma introdução para o livro Sociology of Religion (Sociologia da Religião) (SCM Press, 2011) e trabalha, igualmente, em um estudo sociológico sobre o Santo Daime tanto no seu contexto brasileiro original como em contextos internacionais.
